CDPR's Triumph Over Open-World Storytelling in The Witcher 3: Behind the Scenes
In a recent interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, shared insights into the challenges CD Projekt Red faced when integrating a grand narrative with an open-world setting.

"Few games have dared to attempt what we did: blending expansive storytelling techniques, usually reserved for linear RPGs with corridor-like structures, such as The Witcher 2, and adapting them to fit an open-world experience," Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz
Initially, CDPR had reservations about whether the ambitious scope of the story could harmoniously coexist with the open-world design. Despite these concerns, the development team boldly ventured forward, ultimately creating one of the most acclaimed RPGs to date—The Witcher 3. Today, Tomaszkiewicz spearheads the team at Rebel Wolves, which is working on The Blood of Dawnwalker. Set in an alternate medieval Eastern Europe with dark fantasy elements, the game centers around vampires.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. While an official release date remains undisclosed, fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal this summer.
