Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary, Rally for Sequel and Next-Gen Update

Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, and fans are rallying together for yet another "Return to Yharnam" community event. Launched on March 24, 2015, by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 4, this masterpiece not only solidified the Japanese developer's reputation but also earned widespread critical and commercial success. Given its impact, many expected a sequel or at least a remaster akin to the Dark Souls series. However, a decade later, fans are still left wondering: why hasn't Sony provided a current-gen remaster, a sequel, or even a next-gen update to enable 60fps gameplay? The ongoing silence from Sony remains one of the most baffling decisions in the gaming industry.

PlayEarly this year, some insight into this mystery came from Shuhei Yoshida, a PlayStation legend who recently left Sony. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida shared his personal theory on the absence of further *Bloodborne* developments, emphasizing that it was not based on any insider information. He suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and the mastermind behind *Bloodborne*, might be too busy and successful to personally oversee any new projects related to the game. Yoshida speculated that Miyazaki's reluctance to let anyone else handle his beloved creation, combined with Sony's respect for his wishes, could explain the lack of updates.

Miyazaki's track record since Bloodborne supports Yoshida's theory. He has been busy directing Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and the critically acclaimed Elden Ring, which has even led to a multiplayer spin-off. While Miyazaki often avoids direct questions about Bloodborne by citing FromSoftware's lack of ownership over the IP, he did concede last year that the game could benefit from being updated for modern hardware.

In the absence of official updates, fan-made projects have tried to bridge the gap. However, Sony has been stringent, issuing takedown notices for mods like the 60fps patch created by Lance McDonald and copyright claims against projects like Lilith Walther's Nightmare Kart and Bloodborne PSX demake. Meanwhile, breakthroughs in PS4 emulation, as highlighted by Digital Foundry, have allowed fans to experience Bloodborne at 60fps on PC, though Sony has yet to comment on these developments.

As fans continue to wait for official news, community-driven events like the "Return to Yharnam" initiative on Bloodborne's 10th anniversary remain crucial. Participants are encouraged to start fresh characters, engage with as many co-operators and invaders as possible, and leave in-game messages to signify their participation in this community effort. These events might be the only way fans can keep the spirit of Bloodborne alive, at least until Sony decides to revisit this beloved game.
