ASTRA: Knights of Veda Drops English Dub, Aligns with Gacha Trends
ASTRA: Knights of Veda will be removing English voiceovers post-maintenance, scheduled for January 23, 2025. Dive in to understand more about the language adjustments planned for the game.
ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
To Enhance Game Stability and Localizations
The developers of ASTRA: Knights of Veda, FLINT, have decided to remove English dubbing from the game on January 23, 2025, aiming to enhance "game stability and improve the quality of localizations." This decision was announced on January 20 as part of a Language Support adjustment update.
Scheduled maintenance on January 23 will lead to the removal of support for languages such as German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, FLINT will continue to support Korean, English (text only), Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.
While English text support remains, the in-game English voiceovers are being phased out. Following the maintenance, "countries outside of Korea will automatically have their In-Game Voice option set to Japanese." FLINT has assured players that this change will not impact their ability to communicate in any of the languages that were previously supported.
Despite potential fan concerns, FLINT is committed to enhancing their service and experience for "Masters of the Book."
Other Gacha Games That Have Removed English Voiceovers
FLINT isn't alone in this move; other gacha games have also opted to remove English voice-over support. Notable examples include Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone.
In May 2024, Square Enix announced the discontinuation of English voice-overs for future content in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing chapters will retain their English voice-overs, but new content will default to Japanese. This shift prioritizes the Japanese language for the game's future.
Aether Gazer's developers made a similar announcement in February 2024, deciding to remove English voice-overs entirely after the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update due to financial constraints. The focus shifted to enhancing gameplay, performance, and future content.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone followed suit in December 2023, removing English voice-overs starting with Version 1.4 to cater to voice-over preferences and enhance the gaming experience.
These decisions highlight a trend where developers are focusing on language preferences and resource allocation. Prioritizing the dominant language can align with player preferences, while the long-term cost of English voice acting can strain budgets. By reallocating resources, these developers aim to ensure the sustainability and enhancement of key game aspects valued by their player base.
