Squad Busters 2.0 Launches on Android Ahead of Anniversary

Squad Busters celebrates its first anniversary, and Supercell is launching its 2.0 update. The game's most significant revamp to date goes live on May 13th. Since its release in 2024, it hasn't achieved the player base the developers envisioned. Will version 2.0 turn things around?
This Goes Beyond Minor Adjustments
Squad Busters 2.0 is essentially a reboot, as the name implies. From the core battle mechanics to how victories are secured, the game is undergoing a complete transformation.
The most notable change involves heroes. You now select a Hero to lead your squad. These Heroes are drawn from the existing roster, and if your Hero is defeated, you lose the match.
Another major shift is the combat system. You no longer need to halt movement to engage in fights. Movement and combat are now seamlessly integrated, making matches more intense, aggressive, and chaotic.
Victory conditions have also been revised. Instead of eliminating every opponent on the map, you only need to defeat the enemy Hero. Some players are skeptical, viewing this as a move toward a Brawl Stars-inspired format with additional complexity.
Squad Busters 2.0 Removes Numerous Legacy Features
Game modes like Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are being discontinued. Some legacy skins and progression systems are also being phased out, with Supercell offering Hero Points and other items as compensation.

It's easy to understand why Supercell is implementing these changes so swiftly. Squad Busters hasn't reached the same level of popularity as Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.
With this major update and the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is clearly aiming to reinvigorate player interest. A series of daily piñata events will also begin soon to mark the occasion, offering opportunities to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
