Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developer behind the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high skin and bundle prices, implementing significant price reductions just hours after launch.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Following considerable negative feedback, the studio announced a price decrease of 17-25% across in-game weapons and character skins. Game director Lee Horn confirmed the changes. Furthermore, players who purchased items before the price adjustment will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

The statement from Mountaintop Studios acknowledged player feedback, emphasizing their commitment to addressing the issue. The initial pricing, particularly the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle (originally priced around $85 or 9,000 SP), drew significant criticism, deemed excessive for a free-to-play game.

Exceptions and Mixed Reactions

It's important to note that the price adjustments do not apply to Starter packs, Sponsors, or Endorsement upgrades. However, players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and these additional items will receive the extra SP added to their accounts.

While some players welcomed the price reduction, the overall reaction remains mixed, mirroring the game's current 49% negative rating on Steam. Negative reviews flooded the Steam platform, impacting the game's overall rating. Social media responses were equally varied, with some praising the developer's responsiveness while others expressed skepticism about the timing and the adequacy of the changes. Suggestions for further improvements, such as allowing individual item purchases from bundles, were also voiced. Concerns were raised regarding the game's long-term viability given the initial pricing controversy and the increasing competition within the free-to-play market.
