Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates
Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options
Phantom Blade Zero is set to break away from the Soulslike genre by offering four difficulty levels: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. Despite its dark aesthetic and intense combat, which drew comparisons to Soulslike games following its reveal at the PlayStation Showcase 2023, the developers are keen to differentiate it.
Game Director Soulframe clarified on an official tweet post-Summer Game Fest 2024 that the team never intended to create another Soulslike game. Instead, their goal is to deliver "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating." While the game draws inspiration from Soulslike games in terms of multi-layered maps and hidden areas, Soulframe emphasizes that "the similarities stop there." He described Phantom Blade Zero as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.
Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More
Recent interviews have unveiled more about Phantom Blade Zero's gameplay. Players can choose from over 30 primary weapons and 20 secondary weapons, each offering unique gameplay and effects. The main story is estimated to take 20-30 hours to complete, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content, ensuring a comprehensive gaming experience.
Boss fights are designed with at least two phases, allowing players to restart from the second phase if they die, avoiding the need to replay the first. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," challenges players to fight previously defeated bosses to unlock new, hidden bosses. Additionally, there's a mechanic that influences the game's ending, though details on how it affects the narrative and the number of alternate endings remain undisclosed.
