At CES 2025, Ronald emphasized merging Xbox and Windows strengths for both PC and handheld gaming. In a subsequent interview with The Verge, he elaborated on Microsoft's approach: leveraging console innovations to enhance the PC and handheld gaming experience.

While the Xbox handheld remains under development, Ronald confirmed significant changes are planned for 2025, focusing on integrating the Xbox experience into the broader Windows ecosystem. He acknowledged Windows' current limitations in the handheld market, particularly its controller-friendliness and support for devices beyond keyboard and mouse. However, he expressed confidence in Microsoft's ability to overcome these challenges, leveraging the Xbox operating system's Windows foundation.

Ronald hinted at further announcements later in the year, emphasizing the goal of integrating the Xbox experience seamlessly into PCs, moving beyond the current Windows desktop environment. The focus will be on putting the player and their game library at the heart of the experience.

The Handheld Landscape at CES 2025

While Microsoft refines its strategy, other companies are making significant strides in the handheld market. Lenovo unveiled the SteamOS-powered Lenovo Legion GO S, the first of its kind, expanding SteamOS's reach beyond the Steam Deck. Meanwhile, a purported Nintendo Switch 2 replica has circulated, hinting at Nintendo's upcoming console release, expected soon.
