Palworld Free To Play Talks Shut Down, Devs Confirm It \"Will Remain Buy-to-Play\"
Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play: Developer Quashes F2P Rumors
Following reports of discussions regarding a potential shift to a free-to-play (F2P) or Games-as-a-Service (GaaS) model, Palworld developer Pocketpair has officially confirmed that the game will remain a buy-to-play title.
In a recent Twitter (X) statement, the team emphatically declared, "We are not changing our game’s business model; it will remain buy-to-play and not F2P or GaaS." This clarification followed an interview with ASCII Japan where the developer explored various future possibilities for the game.
Pocketpair emphasized that while internal discussions on the game's long-term growth continue, the F2P/GaaS approach is not the chosen path. They stated, "Palworld was never designed with that model in mind, and it would require too much work to adapt the game at this point. Additionally, we are very aware that this just isn't what our players want, and we always put our players first."
The developer reiterated its commitment to creating the best possible Palworld experience and apologized for any anxieties caused by the previous reports. Future development will focus on adding content, with the team currently exploring the possibility of skins and DLC to support ongoing development. They promised further discussion on this topic as plans solidify.
An interesting aside: a potential PS5 version of Palworld was listed in a preliminary announcement for the Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024), though this list is not considered definitive.
