Unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and design. CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed several previously speculated features in an interview with The Verge.

The mockup highlighted a notable increase in size, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck. A significant design change is the implementation of magnetic Joy-Cons, secured by a pin mechanism released by a button on each controller. Despite the shift from sliding rails to magnets, Tsai assures users the Joy-Cons remain securely attached during gameplay.

Further enhancements include an additional USB-C port and a mysterious "C" button, the purpose of which remains unknown. Interestingly, each Joy-Con incorporates an optical sensor, hinting at potential functionality as a mouse via a yet-to-be-released attachment. Leaked images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.

While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2's slim profile allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design modifications prevent compatibility. The function of the extra USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery, even to Genki.
