Marvel Rivals Fans Tire of Mister Fantastic Memes

Marvel Rivals players have just wrapped up their first weekend with the newly playable Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman, though some are finding it hard to view Reed Richards with the same gravitas as other heroes.

The elastic scientist joined the fray with Season 1's launch on January 10, bringing his stretchy abilities to the arena as one of the game's first post-launch additions. His Duelist-class powers let him launch long-range strikes against single or multiple foes, and he can even expand his form to adopt a more tank-like role. While players are still figuring out the optimal ways to deploy Mister Fantastic against the current roster, many simply can't get past how unexpectedly silly he can look in action.

A hero who can twist his body into bizarre shapes is ripe for memes. Many have already drawn comparisons to One Piece's protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, thanks to Mister Fantastic's Elastic Strength ability. This resemblance has gained enough traction for the modding community to create a One Piece-inspired skin, even amidst NetEase's recent crackdown on mods. Transforming into a rubbery bodybuilder is amusing on its own, but some fans, like X/Twitter user @BOOMERANG_117, have gotten creative by imagining a clean-shaven version of Marvel Rivals' Reed Richards.

The result is somewhat unsettling, but few of his moves have inspired as many jokes as his Reflexive Rubber ability. It's a practical skill that reflects enemy damage back at them, yet it also looks utterly ridiculous in motion. Activating it causes Mister Fantastic to balloon to the size of a refrigerator, which paints a rather comical picture of him waddling around the battlefield.

Only time will tell if Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman remain fan favorites in Marvel Rivals, but their debut weekend has certainly left a mark. As Season 1 progresses, players can look forward to the rest of the Fantastic Four joining the fight when The Thing and Human Torch become playable later this season.
