Console Performance Targets Revealed

In a recent pre-launch community update stream on December 19th at 9AM EST / 6AM PST, the Monster Hunter Wilds team, including director Yuya Tokuda, shared insights on the game's performance and upcoming adjustments post-Open Beta Test (OBT). They confirmed that a patch will be available for the PS5 Pro at launch next year, enhancing the gaming experience with superior graphics.

For console players, Monster Hunter Wilds will offer two performance modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X: Prioritize Graphics and Prioritize Framerate. Opting for graphics will deliver a stunning 4K resolution at 30fps, while choosing framerate will provide a smoother 60fps at 1080p. Xbox Series S users will enjoy a native 1080p resolution at 30fps. The team also fixed a rendering bug in the Framerate mode, resulting in improved performance.

While specific details on the PS5 Pro's performance were not disclosed beyond enhanced graphics, the game promises to leverage the console's capabilities from day one.

For PC gamers, performance will vary based on hardware and settings. The team has already shared initial PC specs but is actively working to lower the minimum requirements to reach a broader audience. During the livestream, the team also discussed adjustments to hitstop and sound effects to enhance the feeling of impact, as well as efforts to mitigate friendly fire. They highlighted tweaks and improvements to various weapons, with special attention to the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance.
