Wuthering Waves: Elemental Effects, Explained

Author : Ryan May 26,2025

Since the launch of Wuthering Waves, elements have played a crucial role, enhancing character performance and influencing enemy resistances or immunities. Unlike other games such as Genshin Impact, where elements drive complex reactions and synergies, Wuthering Waves has traditionally used elements to provide passive buffs and resistances. However, with the Version 2.0 update, the game introduces significant changes to its elemental system, particularly through new Echo sets and character reworks. Now, characters can apply and benefit from Elemental Effects, which facilitate more direct interactions. Here's a comprehensive guide to understanding Elemental Effects in Wuthering Waves.

All Elemental Status Effects and Debuffs in Wuthering Waves

Elemental Effects have been part of Wuthering Waves since its inception, primarily applied by certain enemies. For instance, players might remember facing Glacio effects from enemies like Lampylumen Myriad, which could freeze the active character. Each of the six elements in the game carries its own unique effect, crucial for players to consider during combat. Most elements inflict a Damage over Time (DoT) effect.

Each element's status effect is triggered by specific elemental attacks and can be removed by dodging, which clears the stacks inflicted by these elements. Here's a breakdown of each elemental effect:

Elemental EffectEffect Description
Havoc Bane
  • While Havoc Bane Effect lasts, the number of its stacks automatically increases by 1 periodically, stacking up to 2 times.
  • When 2 stacks are reached, all stacks are removed to deal Havoc DMG, and reapplying Havoc Bane Effect to nearby Characters.
Glacio Chafe
  • Each stack of Frost Chafe Effect reduces the target's movement speed. Each stack increases the debuff's intensity.
  • At max stacks (10 stacks), the resonator will be Frozen. Players can "Struggle" to accelerate the recovery time from being Frozen.
Spectro Frazzle
  • While Spectro Frazzle Effect lasts, the number of its stacks automatically reduces by 1 to deal Spectro DMG to the target.
  • More stacks allow it to deal more Spectro DMG over time.
Fusion Burst
  • Stacks up to 10 stacks (unless removed), and upon reaching max stacks, creates an explosion and deals great Fusion DMG to the character.
Aero Erosion
  • While Aero Erosion lasts, it deals Aero DMG to the target periodically. Unlike Spectro, the stacks aren't lost to deal the DMG over time.
  • More stacks allow it to deal more Aero DMG over time.
Electro Flare
  • Target's attack is reduced based on the stacks' amount:
    • 1-4 Stacks: ATK -5%.
    • 5-9 Stacks: ATK -7%, and applies Magnetized effect which can affect movement.
    • 10 Stacks: ATK -10%.

Elemental Effect-Related Resonators, Echoes, and Echo Sets

Wuthering Waves Elemental Effects Gameplay

While Wuthering Waves hints at a future where Elemental Effects might play a more significant role in gameplay with Resonators, the Version 2.0 update keeps this mechanic niche. Only a select few Resonators, Echoes, and Echo sets are designed to interact with these effects:

Resonators That Can Apply Elemental Effects

Spectro Rover Applying Elemental Effects

- Spectro Rover: Post-Version 2.0 update, Spectro Rover is the only character capable of applying Elemental Effects. After completing the Version 2.0 storyline, players unlock this enhanced version of Spectro Rover. Through the Resonance Skill’s Resonating Spin variant, Spectro Rover applies 2 stacks of Spectro Frazzle to enemies. Additionally, the skill applies the Shimmer effect, preventing Spectro Frazzle stacks from decreasing over time. This enables Spectro Rover to maintain the Spectro Frazzle effect, crucial for leveraging specific Echoes and Echo sets that benefit from it.

Echoes and Echo Sets Related to Elemental Effects

Eternal Radiance Echo Set

Currently, only one Echo set and its corresponding Echo are designed to work with Elemental Effects, specifically tailored for Spectro Rover:

  • Echo Set - Eternal Radiance: 2-piece set increases Spectro DMG by 10%. 5-piece set boosts Critical Rate by 20% for 15 seconds when inflicting enemies with Spectro Frazzle. Additionally, attacking enemies with 10 stacks of Spectro Frazzle grants a 15% Spectro DMG Bonus for 15 seconds.
  • Echo - Nightmare: Mourning Aix: This Echo allows the equipped Resonator to attack surrounding enemies, dealing 273.60% Spectro DMG. Damage dealt to enemies inflicted by Spectro Frazzle increases by 100%. The Resonator equipped with this Echo gains a 12% Spectro DMG Bonus.
