Playground Games Pledges Ongoing Forza Support

The official Forza Motorsport account has released a community statement addressing ongoing support for both Motorsport and Forza Horizon 5, confirming that developers Turn 10 and Playground Games will "continue to support" their current titles.

While it might seem obvious that a studio would support its latest releases, that hasn't necessarily been the case. This statement arrives exactly one month after reports surfaced during Microsoft's mass layoffs that Turn 10 had been severely affected. Early rumors indicated approximately 50% of Turn 10's staff were let go, though later accounts suggested even more were impacted—potentially the entire or majority of the studio. One former employee noted the studio remained open to supporting Horizon, but the Motorsport division had been completely shut down.

Xbox has yet to clarify what happened at Turn 10, the current status of Playground Games, or who is actually posting on Twitter/X about continuing support for both games. Notably, the statement does not mention future game development. Forza Motorsport is only two years old, but Forza Horizon 5 released in 2021, leaving fans anticipating a new installment. It's uncertain whether a new Horizon title will arrive, if Motorsport will see another entry, or if both Forza teams have been reduced to maintaining existing games until support is no longer feasible.

This update coincides with news about other Xbox-supported titles. Today brought news that Xbox canceled Avalanche Studios' Contraband, though Hideo Kojima's OD remains in development. Everwild and Perfect Dark were both confirmed canceled one month ago during the layoffs.
