Sony Unveils Cinematic Expansion for Helldivers 2 and Horizon

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit video game, Helldivers 2. The exciting news was revealed at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head, Asad Qizilbash. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project's commencement, promising fans spectacular space battles fit for the cinema.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the release of the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

In related news, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse, stating, “We are in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment.”
