Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak
Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks
Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images are not official, citing Nintendo's absence from this year's CES. While this statement is self-evident, it's noteworthy for being one of the few times Nintendo has publicly addressed product leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread online discussion of the leaked images.
In response to a Sankei Shimbun inquiry, Nintendo officially declared the Genki replica images "not official." This clarification emphasizes Nintendo's non-participation in CES 2025, thereby invalidating any CES-originating Switch 2 imagery as official promotional material.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant visual difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to explain the "C" button, added that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will reportedly attach magnetically and function as mouse controllers – claims echoing other sources.
Nintendo's previous announcements indicate a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of around $399.
