Monster Hunter Wilds: Protagonist Aims Beyond Mere Extinction
The Monster Hunter series is renowned for its thrilling monster hunts, but Capcom is keen to highlight the game's core theme: the intricate relationship between hunters and the natural world. Dive deeper into what's in store for Monster Hunter Wilds!
Monster Hunter Wilds Will Focus On Humans And Nature
A Deeper Understanding Of What It Means To Be A Hunter
In the Monster Hunter universe, the role of a hunter transcends mere hunting; it's about fostering a symbiotic relationship between humans and the monstrous beasts they encounter. Capcom's development team is eager to bring this theme to the forefront in Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds), while also enriching the player character with more distinct personality traits.
The narrative of MH Wilds will delve deeply into the symbiotic ties between the environment, its inhabitants, and the hunters. "We aimed to explore the relationship between people, nature, and monsters, and to define the role of a hunter in such a world. This exploration is not only through gameplay but through a rich, immersive story. We have many exciting plans aligned with the concept of Monster Hunter Wilds, and we believe this game successfully conveys our vision," explained game director Yuya Tokuda in an interview with PC Gamer.
To achieve this, MH Wilds will feature increased dialogue, allowing players to imbue their hunter characters with more personality. Tokuda highlighted the diversity of the game's inhabitants, such as characters Nata and Olivia, who come from varied backgrounds and approach the monster situation in unique ways. "We wanted to portray a world where people from different walks of life, with diverse perspectives, coexist. We also wanted to reflect how a hunter would feel and think in such an environment. Everyone is different, and we've incorporated these elements into Monster Hunter Wilds."
This approach marks a departure from the series' traditional silent protagonists and minimal dialogue, yet it ensures that fans who enjoy the focus on gameplay and combat will not be disappointed.
"For players who prefer to dive straight into hunting without engaging with the story, that option remains open. The amount of text in the game won't affect the availability of monsters to hunt, ensuring everyone can enjoy the game their way," Tokuda assured. This is just the beginning, as he hinted at "many other things planned" that will further explore the connection between humans and nature.
