Lies of P DLC Director Vows Difficulty Adjustments
Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled DLC Overture at Summer Game Fest, showcasing new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, weapons, and the highly debated inclusion of two easier difficulty settings. Now, those settings are becoming even more accessible as the team prepares for a "difficulty reduction."
As a "Soulslike" title, Lies of P delivers a punishing challenge, particularly for players drawn to its grim narrative and atmosphere who may be new to the genre. Director Jiwon Choi initially believed Soulslike games should not feature difficulty options and launched without them, but later reversed this stance, stating: “We wanted to ensure a broader audience could enjoy the game."
For players tackling the Overture DLC on its "intended" difficulty, Legendary Stalker, the experience appears more demanding than ever. The surge in discussions—both supporting and criticizing the DLC's increased challenge—prompted the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate all feedback into a "megathread" to prevent the community from being flooded with complaints.
Steam reviews reflect similar sentiments, with one user noting: "At level 300, I shouldn’t be taken down in two hits by standard enemies. The enemy formations force you to confront multiple foes simultaneously, which becomes frustrating when even a single blow from any enemy depletes half your health."
According to a recent Lies of P Director's Letter, the difficulty is set to be adjusted once more.
"We're carefully evaluating all [player feedback] and exploring when to implement some of your suggestions," Choi explained, as reported by Eurogamer. "Among the various comments, we are focusing most intently on the combat experience.
"We recognized certain aspects that didn’t align with our vision. As a result, we are considering several adjustments, including a reduction in difficulty. However, combat is a core pillar of Lies of P, so any revisions demand meticulous effort and extensive testing." This foundational importance may explain why Neowiz has not yet announced a timeline for the update.
Lies of P impressed us, earning an 8/10 score, and Overture also received an 8/10. "While it follows familiar rhythms, Lies of P: Overture is a superb expansion that enriches an already outstanding game," we noted.
