Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Boasts Impressive Performance on Consoles

Discover the impressive performance of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Dive into the details of how KCD2 performs on various settings and the options available to players.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Performance Tested Across All Platforms
Photo-Realistic Look With CryEngine

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is set to deliver a stunning gaming experience on different platforms, backed by solid performance metrics. Both PlayStation and Xbox consoles can run the game smoothly at either 30fps or 60fps, with the PS5 Pro enhancing the visual experience even further. KCD2's use of CryTek’s CryEngine, renowned for its photo-realistic rendering, sets it apart in the gaming landscape.
KCD2 continues the legacy of its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance (KCD1), by utilizing CryEngine. Warhorse Studios' decision to stick with this engine is driven by their familiarity and the ability to push the boundaries of what the engine can do for the sequel.
According to PC Gamer, CryEngine stands out from other engines like Unreal Engine due to its focus on old-school rendering, which prioritizes performance over extensive shaders and complex lighting. Despite this, KCD2 achieves photo-realistic visuals through the use of physically based materials. Eurogamer highlights CryEngine’s sparse voxel octree global illumination (SVOGI) as a key factor in creating realistic lighting effects, such as the way light reflects off metals and interacts with other objects.
PlayStation And Xbox Consoles Have 30 FPS and 60 FPS Options

The PS5 and Xbox Series X offer players two distinct modes: a fidelity mode that runs at 30fps with a resolution of 1440p, and a performance mode that delivers 60fps at 1080p. The Xbox Series S, however, is limited to the fidelity mode only. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro stands out with a single mode that runs at 60fps at 1296p, utilizing PSSR upscaling to achieve 4K visuals.
In fidelity mode, the PS5 and Xbox Series X enhance the visual experience with more detailed foliage and improved shadow rendering across various terrains, significantly enhancing outdoor scenes and ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro elevates these visuals even further, offering sharper imagery, enhanced ambient occlusion, improved object quality, and an overall superior image quality.
Upscaling Is Completely Optional For PC

For PC gamers, KCD2 provides the flexibility of optional upscaling. PC Gamer notes that while options are limited to FSR and DLSS for rendering at lower resolutions, there's no support for XeSS for Intel cards, sharpening options, or frame generation for additional graphical enhancements.
Despite CryEngine's performance-oriented design, running KCD2 at 4K with maximum settings will still demand significant GPU power. Fortunately, the game offers five quality presets—low, medium, high, ultra, and experimental—allowing players to tailor the settings to their hardware capabilities.
KCD2 has released a comprehensive guide to help players prepare their systems for the game. This guide includes detailed instructions on checking system specs, CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage requirements, and other crucial preparations.
