New First-Party PlayStation Game Will Reportedly Be Inspired by Smash Bros
A PlayStation studio, recently formed from a group of former Bungie employees, is reportedly developing a MOBA titled "Gummy Bears." This project, initially conceived at Bungie, has undergone a significant shift in development teams.
Initially reported in August 2023 as a Bungie project, Gummy Bears' development is now overseen by a new PlayStation studio, comprised of approximately 40 former Bungie staff. This transition follows Bungie's 2024 workforce reduction and subsequent integration of employees into Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Gummy Bears, rumored to be in development since at least 2022, distinguishes itself from previous Bungie titles by targeting a younger audience. Its unique features include a percentage-based damage system, mirroring Super Smash Bros.' mechanics, instead of traditional health bars. Characters are knocked back further with increased damage, and can even be knocked off the map.
The game will reportedly feature standard MOBA character classes (Attack, Defense, Support) and multiple game modes. Its visual style is described as cozy, vibrant, and "lo-fi," a departure from Bungie's previous aesthetic choices. While a release date remains unconfirmed, the game is expected to be several years from launch.
