Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once tantalized with the prospect of an expansive DLC set in the cosmos, specifically on the Moon. However, this ambitious project, which promised to take players beyond the neon-lit streets of Night City, was ultimately shelved. Thanks to the diligent work of blogger and dataminer SirMZK, fans have gained insight into what CD Projekt RED had envisioned for this lunar expansion through leaks and files extracted from the game's code.

The game's files revealed references to lunar surface maps, distinct zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a rover model designed for the Moon's terrain. The Moon location was slated to be vast, potentially encompassing a quarter of Night City's size, and was planned to feature an open-world design. This would have introduced a thrilling new dimension to the gameplay, offering players an escape to the stars.

Among the highlights of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, players can catch a fleeting glimpse of the Crystal Palace in one of Cyberpunk 2077's endings, where V gazes out of a spaceship window. Additionally, files uncovered a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest named 201, which was part of the Arasaka storyline.

While the Moon DLC remains a dream lost in the ether, fans remain hopeful that some of these concepts might find new life in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm the reuse of these ideas.

The details unearthed by SirMZK paint a captivating picture of what could have been—an audacious leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into uncharted territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk aesthetic.
