A 30-40 Hour Main Campaign Awaits

Prepare for an extensive adventure! Creative Director Jonathan Dumont confirmed that completing Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ (AC Shadows) main campaign will take players approximately 30-40 hours. Beyond the main storyline, over 80 hours of additional content awaits those seeking a complete experience. Furthermore, the team is actively exploring the addition of a highly requested New Game+ mode and other features based on player feedback, addressing the disappointment felt by many AC Valhalla players who lacked this option.

Dumont also highlighted AC Shadows’ key features: a dynamic world with realistic seasonal changes and weather effects, innovative gameplay mechanics, a vastly expanded and customizable Hideout, and a compelling new Animus story that will connect to future Assassin’s Creed titles.

A Japanese-Inspired Assassin’s Creed

The development team behind AC Shadows harbored a long-held ambition to create a game set in Japan. Dumont explained that the technological capabilities to accurately portray Japan’s natural environment, combined with a compelling narrative, finally made this dream a reality.

Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and the works of Akira Kurosawa, the team has infused their unique Assassin’s Creed perspective into the game’s design. Dumont acknowledged the online discussions surrounding the game, particularly the inclusion of Yasuke, and stated the team is committed to addressing constructive criticism. The team's primary focus remains delivering a high-quality game that will resonate with both international and Japanese audiences.

Exploring the Hideout: Your Customizable Sanctuary

The Secret Valley of Izumi Settsu

A detailed look at the Hideout was revealed on March 5th, 2025, on the official AC Shadows website. Nestled within the secluded valley of Izumi Settsu province, this base of operations will serve as the player’s central hub for building their Brotherhood.

Systems Associate Director Dany described the Hideout as "pretty ambitious," highlighting the team's commitment to innovation after creating various locations in previous games. Players will have an entire acre of land to personalize, placing buildings, pavilions, pathways, and even local flora and fauna. Dany emphasized the team's desire for players to truly make the Hideout their own, with customization options gradually unlocking as the player progresses through the game.

Building Your League

The Hideout will house a variety of characters who will aid the player, each with their own unique backstories and challenges. Character placement within the Hideout will be influenced by building choices, leading to dynamic interactions. For example, combat-oriented characters might be found in the Dojo, while others might be enjoying sake in the Zashiki.

This design choice allows for spontaneous dialogue between characters, creating a dynamic and immersive environment. Dany highlighted the collaborative effort of writers from four different studios, emphasizing the organic and engaging interactions they created. The Hideout is envisioned as the vibrant heart of the player's growing league.
