Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Adds Cloud Saves
Nintendo has officially confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2 will indeed support cloud save functionality after all.
While we previously knew about enhanced versions of select Switch 1 games coming to Switch 2, including Tears of the Kingdom, recent reports from IGN raised concerns about potential limitations to Nintendo's cloud save features.
The initial product pages for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition included concerning disclaimer: "This software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature."
Nintendo has since updated its website with additional clarity. While Donkey Kong Bananza's page removed all cloud save references entirely, the revised disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now states: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred back to the original Nintendo Switch version."

This clarification indicates players will be able to transfer their Switch 1 save files to the new Switch 2 version, though the reverse transfer won't be possible (as reported by Eurogamer).
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now carries the same notice, confirming a consistent approach to save file management across Zelda titles.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders recently launched at the anticipated $449.99 price point - and predictably sold out quickly. For more details, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
