WoW Subscription Price Hikes in Specific Territory
World of Warcraft to Raise Prices in Australia and New Zealand
Starting February 7th, Blizzard Entertainment will increase the cost of all World of Warcraft in-game transactions for players in Australia and New Zealand. This price adjustment affects various services, including subscriptions and in-game purchases.
The announcement, made on January 7th, cites global and regional market conditions as the reason for the increase. While players with active recurring subscriptions as of February 6th will retain their current rates for up to six months, new and renewing subscriptions will see a price hike.
This isn't the first time World of Warcraft has adjusted its pricing. Blizzard has historically adjusted prices in various countries to reflect economic changes. However, the US monthly subscription price has remained at $14.99 since 2004.
The price changes for Australia and New Zealand are as follows: monthly subscriptions will increase to AUD 23.95 and NZD 26.99 respectively, with annual plans capped at AUD 249.00 and NZD 280.68. The WoW Token will rise to AUD 32.00 and NZD 36.00. Other services, including name changes, race changes, and character boosts, will also see price increases (see table below).

While the price increases, based on current exchange rates, roughly align with US pricing, the fluctuating exchange rates are a factor. Player reactions have been mixed, with some criticizing the move and others suggesting it brings prices in line with the US market. Blizzard emphasizes that the decision wasn't made lightly and acknowledges player feedback. The long-term impact of these price changes remains to be seen.
