The Witcher 4 Set To Be The Most Ambitious of the Series
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has unveiled its most ambitious Witcher game yet: The Witcher 4. Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga confirms Ciri's ascension as the next Witcher, a destiny hinted at from the series' inception. This article delves into Ciri's evolution and Geralt's well-deserved retirement.
A New Chapter for the Witcher Saga
Ciri: The Next Generation
CDPR aims to redefine open-world immersion with The Witcher 4. Director Sebastian Kalemba emphasizes the team's commitment to exceeding expectations, drawing on lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The cinematic trailer showcased Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, inheriting his mantle. Story Director Tomasz Marchewka reveals that Ciri's role was planned from the outset, highlighting her complexity and rich narrative potential.
While fans adore Ciri's overwhelming power in previous games, Mitręga hints at a shift. The trailer suggests a subtle reduction in her Witcher abilities, a consequence of undisclosed events between games. Kalemba assures players that these narrative threads will be fully resolved within the game's storyline. Despite the change, Ciri retains Geralt's influence, exhibiting his agility and speed, as noted by Mitręga.
Geralt's Well-Earned Rest
With Ciri's rise, Geralt enters a new phase of life. Considering his age (61 in The Witcher 3, according to author Andrzej Sapkowski), retirement is well-deserved. Sapkowski's Rozdroże kruków confirms Geralt's birth year as 1211, placing him in his seventies, possibly nearing eighty, by The Witcher 4's timeline. This aligns with Witcher lore, suggesting a lifespan of up to 100 years, provided they survive the dangers of their profession. This revelation surprised some fans who previously estimated Geralt to be much older.
