GameStop is auctioning off its notorious stapler that damaged multiple consoles during the Nintendo Switch 2 launch frenzy. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals - with bids already surpassing $100,000.

The eBay listing includes not just the infamous stapler and certificate of authenticity, but also the first Switch 2 unit that suffered stapler damage (now refurbished and fully functional), complete with its original box bearing visible puncture marks.

"While we regret the incident occurred, we're turning it into an opportunity to support a great cause," GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen stated. The bidding war reached a new level when Cohen promised to include his personal underwear if the auction crossed six figures - a pledge now being honored.

The retail chain made waves last month when numerous customers reported Switch 2 screens pierced by receipt-attaching staples across multiple stores, with New York's Staten Island location being particularly affected. GameStop replaced all damaged consoles and later embraced the mishap in its marketing campaigns.

Beyond questioning one employee's overenthusiastic stapling technique, gamers have raised concerns about Nintendo's packaging design. The Switch 2's screen lacks substantial protection against the thin cardboard box, being shielded only by a basic plastic sleeve. IGN reached out to Nintendo regarding potential packaging revisions but received no response.

GameStop's certificate brands the stapler as "an authentic relic from the now-legendary 'Staplegate' incident," recounting how "launch night excitement led to misguided receipt attachment decisions." While downplaying its actual damage count, the description celebrates the tool's unexpected transformation into gaming merchandise history.

Current bidding has rocketed to $108,895, turning an employee's momentary lapse into a charitable windfall.
