Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's engine, is slated for a 2025 release.

A recent developer update stream confirmed the team's commitment to this ambitious goal. Developed by volunteer modders, Skyblivion represents a monumental undertaking, years in the making. Despite the scale, the team remains confident in a 2025 launch, stating their hope to "finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation."

The project goes beyond a simple one-to-one remake. The developers are significantly overhauling aspects of the original Oblivion, from ensuring "unique items are actually unique" to enhancing boss encounters, specifically mentioning Mannimarco. The stream showcased the "A Brush with Death" quest, highlighting the impressive visual fidelity.

Adding another layer of intrigue is the persistent rumor of an official Oblivion remake. Details of a potential official remake surfaced earlier this year, suggesting alterations to combat and other mechanics. While Microsoft declined to comment, the existence of an Oblivion remaster was hinted at in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial.

The existence of a substantial fan-made project like Skyblivion could potentially impact Microsoft and Bethesda's plans for an official release. Bethesda games have a long history of thriving modding communities. The hope is that Skyblivion avoids the fate of Fallout London, which encountered difficulties near its release.
