Will R.E.P.O come to consoles?
The co-op horror game, R.E.P.O., has exploded in popularity since its February release, boasting over 200,000 PC players. But will this chilling experience make its way to consoles? Let's dive in.
Will R.E.P.O. Come to Consoles?
Currently, there are no plans for R.E.P.O. to launch on consoles. Developer semiwork hasn't indicated any intention to port the game, suggesting it may remain a PC exclusive. Their current focus is entirely on refining the game's multiplayer experience.
This small development team is grappling with a significant challenge: implementing robust anti-cheat measures without inadvertently hindering players who use modifications. As the developer explained to PCGamer, "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that." This hurdle needs to be overcome before even considering a console port.
While some PC-only titles, like Mouthwashing, have transitioned to consoles, it's important to note that Mouthwashing is a single-player game, significantly simplifying the porting process. Similarly, Lethal Company and Content Warning—previous titles from semiwork with similar gameplay—remain PC exclusives. Although console releases were briefly considered for Content Warning last year, technical difficulties stalled those plans.
Therefore, the short answer is: no concrete plans exist for a console release of R.E.P.O. The developer is prioritizing enhancing the PC version's multiplayer functionality and addressing the complexities of anti-cheat implementation.
