The Pokémon Company International, during the 2024 World Championships, announced the comeback of beloved "Trainer's Pokémon" cards. A teaser trailer showcased trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N, alongside their Pokémon, hinting at a potential Team Rocket resurgence.
Classic Trainer's Pokémon cards, featuring Pokémon owned by specific characters, were a cornerstone of the original TCG. These cards boasted unique abilities and distinctive artwork. The teaser revealed Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, N’s Zoroark ex, and N’s Reshiram as examples of this returning mechanic.
The trailer also featured Mewtwo alongside the iconic Team Rocket symbol, fueling speculation about a dedicated Team Rocket card set or the return of Dark Pokémon, another popular early-game feature often associated with Team Rocket.Rumors of a Team Rocket expansion have been circulating, with reports of Japanese retailer listings and a trademark filing ("The Glory of Team Rocket") by The Pokémon Company. While unconfirmed, a release seems increasingly likely.
Paradise Dragona Set Debut at World Championships
The 2024 World Championships also unveiled initial cards from the upcoming Paradise Dragona set. According to PokeBeach, Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex were showcased. This Japanese Dragon-type subset is slated for a November 2024 English release as part of the Surging Sparks set.
The Pokémon TCG is currently concluding its Kitikami chapter with the release of the Shrouded Fable expansion this month, containing 99 cards (64 main and 35 secret rares), as detailed on the official Pokémon TCG blog.
