MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Loses 99% of Players
If Season 5 of MultiVersus doesn't perform well, it might mark the end of the game. AusilMV, known for leaking game information, has shared that according to a reliable source, Season 5 represents a last-ditch effort to revive the game. While this is currently just a rumor, the situation appears concerning.
At its launch in 2022, MultiVersus enjoyed explosive success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base soon plummeted by 99%, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.
Scheduled to start in early February, Season 5 could be the final opportunity for developers to rekindle players' interest. Essentially, this version of MultiVersus is a relaunch, though the developers have opted to describe the original 2022 release as a "beta." Despite the initial enthusiasm from players, the decision to temporarily close the game in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many fans disappointed, especially those who had purchased the premium edition in support of the developers.
