Monster Hunter Wilds 1.011 Update Details Announced
Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda has detailed what's arriving in the May 28 Version 1.011 update, promising "a wealth of new features and game changes, including a collaboration with Street Fighter 6."
In his latest Director's Letter, Tokuda stated the team aimed "to deliver more excellent content for players to enjoy while implementing various adjustments to make Monster Hunter Wilds even more engaging." This includes a new challenger: Street Fighter's Akuma. Players will receive a full Akuma armor set and layered armor. While either set is equipped, three items—Assisted Combo: Akuma, Drive Impact, and Gou Hadoken—will be added to the item bar (more details are available on the official Monster Hunter website).
Version 1.011 also introduces challenging eight-star monsters. Gore Magala, Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, and Jin Dahaad become huntable at Hunter Rank 41 and above, providing alternatives to hunting eight-star tempered monsters besides Arkveld—though these monsters will remain available at seven-star difficulty. The eight-star versions are more resilient, featuring increased health, wound resistance, and "adjustments to multiplayer scaling." Tokuda cautions that Tempered Gore Magala presents "a particularly tough challenge, even for the most skilled hunters." As Hunter Rank increases, players can also expect more frequent appearances of higher-difficulty quests and multi-monster hunts.
A series of "player-focused balance adjustments" are arriving in both Version 1.011 and the upcoming Title Update 2. The Hammer, Hunting Horn, Gunlance, Light Bowgun, and Heavy Bowgun have all received various tweaks, and "certain aspects" of Gunlance Artian weapons have been enhanced.
"While some weapon parameters were adjusted downward, others were increased. Overall, we believe all weapon types have expanded potential, so we encourage you to try them out after the update," Tokuda explained. He added that the Hammer and Dual Blades are receiving "various improvements" as well.
Other quality-of-life improvements allow Hunters to rest in the Grand Hub and Suja, Peaks of Accord. Resting fully restores all destroyed Pop-up Camps. A confirmation window will no longer appear when obtaining an item with a full pouch—the item will automatically be sent to the storage box. The visibility of meal effect timers is improved, with a countdown displaying 10 minutes before expiration. All notifications have been adjusted, reducing their frequency in hunting locales so only higher-priority targets appear in the environment overview. Notifications will also no longer block the input for opening the map.
"As mentioned previously, you will be able to view individual endemic life you've captured," Tokuda added. "In the Windward Plains, select 'Check Endemic Life' in Ecological Research to see your creatures, their names, and the size and weight of fish you've caught. You can also favorite creatures to preserve them even if you exceed storage capacity! Individual creatures can have unique patterns or traits, so if you find one you particularly like, be sure to use this feature to keep it!"
The update also includes stability improvements, particularly on Steam. With the addition of eight-star monsters, rewards for eight-star investigations and field surveys have been increased. Guild Point rewards for fishing have been "rebalanced," though specific details are forthcoming.
Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest mainline entry in Capcom's long-running series, featuring dynamic, evolving environments and a story set in a world with two faces: one of harsh, unforgiving lands where monsters battle for scarce resources, and another of vibrant, life-filled landscapes. We awarded Monster Hunter Wilds an 8 in our review, noting: "Monster Hunter Wilds smartly smooths more of the series' rough edges, delivering extremely fun fights but lacking significant challenge."
