As Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 nears its one-year milestone, the Emperor's crusade continues. Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have confirmed the co-op shooter is expanding with a major "large-scale update" scheduled for September, plus a full second year of planned free and premium content. This shift is partly because much of the content originally planned for Update 9 has been moved to Update 10, meaning Update 9 will focus largely on gameplay balance.

In a recent Steam community update, Saber and Focus outlined their roadmap to support Space Marine 2 well into 2026. "We're thrilled to announce a second year of both free and DLC content, available through a new annual season pass!" the studio stated. "Prepare for new PvE missions, enemies, weapons, and... even more."

The word "more" is carrying significant weight here. Despite the official commencement of development on Space Marine 3, the teams' hints in their post signal a strong commitment to ongoing support for Space Marine 2, though many exciting specifics are still under wraps.

The planned September 10.0 update is the centerpiece of the anniversary celebration, packed with substantial new additions. A headline feature is a new PvP mode, though fans will need to wait a bit longer. Initially targeted for the summer's Update 9.0, this mode has been rescheduled for the September release.

While Saber and Focus haven't revealed all the details, the new mode will reportedly feature Chaos forces battling each other on a brand-new map, a departure from the standard "Loyalist vs. Chaos" PvP format. Players will also get to pilot the Helbrute, one of the game's boss enemies, and access "new Chaos armours" alongside the Power Axe—a weapon with its own unique move set and execution animations. So far, only a work-in-progress model of the axe has been shown.

Also on the way is a new playable class: the Techmarine. Saber and Focus are keeping details close for now, but speculation suggests this class—known in Warhammer 40k lore as the engineers and battlefield mechanics of the Adeptus Astartes—could specialize in repairing machinery and fortifying defenses during combat.

The developers did confirm the Techmarine will be available in both PvE and PvP modes. Expect more information in community updates later this July and August as the studio gears up for the major September patch.

Looking forward, players can anticipate a steady stream of new content throughout the game's second year. The new season pass will include a mix of free updates and premium DLC, building on the model established in the game's first year.

While a firm release date for Update 9.0 isn't set, the studio indicates it will arrive this summer. Further details on the 10.0 update, the Chaos PvP mode, and the Techmarine class are expected in community posts throughout July and August.
