Choi Ji-Won, the director behind Lies of P, found inspiration in the refreshing gameplay of Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test. During his interview at the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC) with Eurogamer, Choi discussed the evolution of the Souls genre. As a long-time fan of FromSoftware, Choi's admiration is reflected in the design of Lies of P.

Reflecting on Elden Ring: Nightreign, Choi remarked, "The experience was incredibly refreshing and innovative. It's clear that FromSoftware continues to push the boundaries of imagination and vision, which in turn, inspired me to ensure that Overture delivers the best possible experience for our players."

This enthusiasm extends to future projects, as Choi shared, "We are definitely open to exploring any sort of new directions, including multiplayer games, in our future endeavors."

Choi revealed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players between 15 to 20 hours to complete. This expansion is packed with new bosses and content that the team had originally envisioned for the base game's launch. Choi elaborated, "Overture isn’t just an add-on; it's deeply connected to the base game. Developing this expansion felt like completing the Lies of P experience, which was both challenging and rewarding."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to the final days of Krat, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and previously unused concepts, aiming to provide a comprehensive experience similar to a Director’s Cut, rounding out the game's narrative arc.

Choi explained, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything we wanted initially. The support from our community after the release pushed us to deliver all the content we envisioned in this expansion."

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that Overture does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the base game hinted at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed that the upcoming DLC explores different narrative threads.

Choi had previously announced in a Director’s Letter video in November 2023 that a sequel to Lies of P is in development. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain under wraps. He assured fans, "When we're ready to share more about upcoming content or news, you can be confident that it will meet our high standards of quality. We remain committed to delivering the best possible experience despite any pressures."
