Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba Join Forces for Live-Action Cyberpunk Extravaganza
Idris Elba Pitches Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action with Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has publicly expressed his strong desire for a live-action adaptation of the game, specifically one featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he also shares the screen with Reeves), Elba enthusiastically stated that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Reeves would be "Whoa." He believes their characters, Solomon Reed and Johnny Silverhand respectively, would create an electrifying on-screen dynamic.
This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce a year after the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action The Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation is a realistic possibility.
Beyond the live-action prospect, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in multiple languages, with an English version expected later. The manga focuses on Rebecca and Pilar, before their involvement with Maine's crew. Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is planned for 2025, and a new animated series is also in development. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk universe across various media.
