Set in a parallel universe to the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features three-player cooperative gameplay. Players select from eight unique Nightfarers, each with distinct abilities and Ultimates, to battle new threats in the ever-changing Limveld. A three-day-and-night cycle significantly impacts gameplay, shrinking the map with the Night’s Tide and culminating in a Nightlord boss battle each session. Failure yields relics for character customization and upgrades.

The official description highlights:

Elden Ring Nightreign begins at the Roundtable Hold. Players choose from eight unique characters, battling in the ever-changing Limveld, facing a shrinking map due to the Night’s Tide. Each night ends with a powerful boss fight, leading to greater challenges. The final night features a battle against the Nightlord. Cooperation is key, with combined abilities crucial for success. Defeat provides relics for character upgrades. Each session offers a unique experience, with ever-shifting enemies, rewards, and environments. Sites of Grace provide opportunities for leveling up. Each session is like a challenging open-air dungeon, granting lasting stat bonuses. Victory brings players closer to defeating the Nightlord and uncovering the Nightfarers' stories.

IGN's hands-on preview described Nightreign as "turbocharg[ing] the cautious dungeon crawls of Elden Ring into propulsive, slash ‘n’ dash speedruns." Further details can be found in IGN's interview with game director Junya Ishizaki. [Link to IGN interview would go here]
