EA Rejects 'Dead Space 4'
Dead Space 4: EA's Rejection and Future Hopes
In a recent interview on Dan Allen Gaming's YouTube channel, Dead Space creator Glen Schofield, along with developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, revealed that EA rejected their proposal for a Dead Space 4. While the team pitched the idea earlier this year, EA's response was a swift "no," citing a lack of current interest.
The news surfaced when Stone recounted a conversation with his son, a newly minted Dead Space fan, eager for a sequel. This sparked a discussion about the team's attempt to revive the franchise. Schofield explained that the pitch didn't proceed far, with EA politely declining. The developers understand EA's position, acknowledging the publisher's focus on data-driven decisions regarding game development and release. Stone highlighted the current industry climate, noting a prevailing hesitancy towards risky ventures, especially with established IPs that haven't seen a new release in a while.
Despite the setback, the positive reception of the recent Dead Space remake (an 89 Metacritic score and "Very Positive" Steam reviews) might seem like a strong argument for a sequel. However, EA's decision suggests that even this success wasn't enough to warrant the perceived risk of developing a new entry.
However, the team remains hopeful. Stone expressed confidence that Dead Space 4 will eventually materialize, emphasizing their shared enthusiasm and existing ideas. Although they're currently working on separate projects in different studios, the desire to revisit the Dead Space universe remains strong. The future of the franchise may be uncertain, but the possibility of a Dead Space 4 still lingers.
