Deltarune Chapter 4 Nearing Completion, But Release Still Far Off
Deltarune Update: Chapter 4 Nearing Completion, but Release Still Awaits
Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, recently shared a development update on Deltarune in his newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearly finished, a simultaneous release of Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4 is still some time away.
Chapter 4 Progress Report:
Fox confirmed that all Chapter 4 maps are complete, and battles are playable. However, the team is currently focusing on polishing the chapter. This includes:
- Minor cutscene improvements (two cutscenes).
- Battle balancing and visual enhancements (one battle).
- Background improvements (one battle).
- Enhanced ending sequences (two battles).
Despite these remaining tasks, Fox considers Chapter 4 essentially playable, and it has received positive feedback from testers.
Challenges and Upcoming Tasks:
The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, especially since this will be the first major paid release since Undertale. Fox highlighted the following crucial steps before launch:
- Testing new game functions.
- Finalizing PC and console versions.
- Japanese localization.
- Thorough bug testing.
Chapter 3 and Beyond:
Chapter 3 development is complete (as previously announced). Interestingly, some team members have already begun preliminary work on Chapter 5, including map creation and bullet pattern design.
The newsletter included a sneak peek at Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, a character description for Elnina, and a new item, GingerGuard. While no release date was given, Fox reassured fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2, and that future chapter releases should be more streamlined after this initial launch.
