Ōkami 2 Confirmed to Be a Direct Sequel, Still in Early Development

The highly anticipated Ōkami sequel, announced at last year's Game Awards, finally sheds some light on its narrative direction. In a recent interview with IGN, Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed the sequel directly continues the storyline of the original game. When pressed about the identity of the character shown in the TGA trailer, director Hideki Kamiya playfully responded with "I wonder...", but Hirabayashi confirmed it to be Amaterasu.

Addressing the Nintendo DS prequel, Ōkamiden, Hirabayashi acknowledged mixed fan reception, particularly concerning its narrative divergence and the absence of key original team members. He emphasized the new sequel as a direct continuation of the original Ōkami's story.

The original Ōkami's ending, featuring Amaterasu and another character embarking on an unexplored journey, naturally lends itself to a sequel. This new adventure promises fresh challenges for Amaterasu and the other protagonists.

However, fans will have to exercise patience. The team confirmed the sequel is in its very early stages of development, with the early announcement driven by excitement.
