Stalker 2 mods may require 700GB space

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has received its 1.5 update, delivering numerous adjustments and fixes, but it's the initial release of GSC Game World's modding tools that's capturing our attention... and consuming our storage space.

"Customize the Zone with the Stalker 2 Zone Kit," announced GSC Game World. "Alter existing content or craft entirely new experiences — from animations and weapons to game mechanics and bizarre Zone anomalies."

Sounds exciting, doesn't it? And it truly is, provided you've got 700GB of available storage... in addition to the 160GB required for the base game installation.

The development team explains these substantial storage requirements stem from their commitment to supporting mod creators. By providing uncompressed source files, modders gain access to original assets during their creative process, ultimately benefiting the entire community.

"The mod kit's significant size reflects our decision to provide uncompressed game assets to mod developers," GSC stated to PC Gamer. "Given the game's substantial scale and numerous assets, this results in a sizable download. As this represents only phase one of the Zone Kit, we'll investigate potential optimizations for future releases."

A community representative elaborated on Reddit: "We're releasing the Zone Kit in phases to collaborate with mod creators throughout its development. While already feature-rich, this initial release represents just the beginning. Phase two will introduce even greater customization capabilities for the Zone."

In our S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl review, we awarded the game 8/10, noting: "Beneath its technical challenges lies an extraordinary experience — a relentlessly grueling shooter that captivates with its unparalleled atmosphere and ultimately rewards players who endure its demanding journey."
