Author : Nova May 13,2025

This year's ninth TennoCon has been nothing short of spectacular, showcasing some mind-blowing reveals that have left fans buzzing with excitement. The highlight of the event was the announcement of Warframe: 1999, an upcoming update that promises to be one of the most thrilling additions to the series yet.

Before diving into the main event, players can look forward to a prologue quest set to release in August 2024 called "The Lotus Eaters." This quest will reunite players with one of Warframe's most iconic characters and serves as a follow-up to "Whispers in the Walls," introducing the world of 1999. Alongside this, Sevagoth Prime and their exclusive weapons will be introduced. To fully experience Warframe: 1999 upon its Winter 2024 release, completing all the story up to and including "The Lotus Eaters" is essential.

Set in the titular year of 1999, the update unfolds on an alternate Earth where Y2K is not just a bug but a deadly virus threatening to bring about global catastrophe. The action takes place in Höllvania, a city once a 90s wonderland, now corrupted by Techrot. Players will navigate this environment using new Atomicycles, capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even being used as makeshift explosives. Leading the charge are the six heroes of the Hex, each donning a Protoframe that showcases the human inside. Arthur, the leader, wields Excalibur, supported by allies such as Aoi with Mag and Quincy in the newly introduced CYTE-09, which will also be available in the Origin system, complete with a stylish beret.

The team is brought to life by renowned actors including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and the recently acclaimed Amelia Tyler from Baldur's Gate 3. Players can get to know these characters better through a nostalgic 1999-style instant messaging system, potentially leading to some New Year's Eve romance.

To fully immerse players in the 1999 atmosphere, the update introduces a confrontation with a 90s boy band, On-lyne, led by Zeke, voiced by Nick Apostolides, known for his role as Leon Kennedy. Despite being transformed into infected foes by the Technocyte Coda, their music remains catchy, with their hit single "Party of Your Lifetime" now available on streaming platforms.

One of the most exciting features of Warframe: 1999 is the enhanced fashion system, considered the true endgame by many players. The update introduces the ability to switch between two fashion frame loadouts during battle, and the new Gemini Skins allow players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin system. While this feature is limited to frames with these skins, such as Excalibur, it adds fully-voiced lines for in-battle banter and casual conversation with the operator, making excellent use of the talented voice cast.

Beyond the main update, Digital Extremes is collaborating with animation studio THE LINE to produce an anime short related to Warframe: 1999, set to launch this year. Additionally, players can now access stunning high-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember, with a Rhino skin to follow in early 2025.

With Warframe: 1999 slated for a Winter 2024 release, there's a lot to catch up on and more exciting content on the horizon. Make sure to download Warframe now from the App Store to stay ahead of the game.
