Sydney Sweeney Nears Deal to Star in Live-Action Gundam Film
Sydney Sweeney, the star of "Madame Web," is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the iconic anime and toy franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam. The film, which is a joint venture between Bandai Namco and Legendary, entered production in February, marking a significant step in bringing this beloved series to the big screen.
Directed and written by Kim Mickle, known for her work on "Sweet Tooth," the movie currently does not have an official title. While specific plot details and a release window remain under wraps, the excitement around the project is palpable, underscored by the release of a teaser poster.

Variety was the first to report Sweeney's involvement in the project, although her exact role and the film's storyline are still undisclosed. Sweeney, recognized for her roles in HBO's "Euphoria," "The White Lotus," "Reality," "Anyone but You," and the superhero film "Madame Web," continues to expand her portfolio. Just last month, she was linked to both star in and produce a film based on a horror story from a Reddit thread.

In their initial announcement, Legendary and Bandai Namco expressed their commitment to steadily release further details as they are finalized. They highlighted the significance of Mobile Suit Gundam, which debuted in 1979, in establishing the 'real robot anime' genre. The series broke away from the traditional good vs. evil narrative prevalent in robot anime at the time, offering instead realistic portrayals of war, detailed scientific explorations, and complex human dramas centered around the use of 'mobile suits' as weapons. This approach sparked a major cultural phenomenon.
