A New Generation of Fans?

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is poised to revitalize this classic JRPG series. Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama expressed their hopes in a recent Famitsu interview (translated via Google) that the remaster will introduce Suikoden to a new audience while rekindling the passion of longtime fans. Ogushi, deeply connected to the series, paid tribute to the late creator, Yoshitaka Murayama, stating, "I’m sure Murayama would have wanted to be involved as well." Sakiyama, director of Suikoden V, aimed to bring "Genso Suikoden" back to the forefront, hoping the IP will continue to grow.

Enhanced Experience: More Than Just HD

Based on the 2006 Japan-exclusive PlayStation Portable collection, Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster offers modern enhancements. Konami promises upgraded HD background illustrations, creating more immersive environments. While the original pixel art sprites are refined, their core design remains intact. A new Gallery showcasing music, cutscenes, and an event viewer lets players revisit key moments.

Addressing Past Issues and Modernizing Content

The remaster corrects past issues. The infamous shortened Luca Blight cutscene from Suikoden 2's PSP release is fully restored. Furthermore, some dialogue has been adjusted to align with modern sensibilities; for instance, Richmond's smoking habit has been removed to reflect Japan's smoking bans.
