Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations

I've highlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll, but there are some great additional picks that should be on your watch list from the list above too.

Devil May Cry is the latest animated video game adaptation from Netflix, and with a trailer featuring Limp Bizkit and a newly composed Evanescence track, it's clear they're aiming to capture the perfect tone for their audience. Netflix has had mixed success with anime or anime-style game IPs, from hits like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to misses like Tekken: Bloodline and Dragon’s Dogma. However, with creator Adi Shankar, who brought us Castlevania, Guardians of Justice, and Captain Laserhawk, and animators Studio Mir, known for Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, Devil May Cry promises to be a thrilling watch, especially for fans of anime like Trigun who enjoy the adventures of edgy protagonists like Dante.

In Moonrise, the moon is on a quest for independence, a concept that the creators of 2021's Moonfall might wish they had thought of. This original net animation (ONA) boasts impressive talent, including animation by WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), character designs by manga icon Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Although details about the story are scarce, the anticipation is high for something truly special.

Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends might be less known outside Japan or among younger audiences, but it has maintained a dedicated fanbase since its manga debut in the late 1980s. Created by Gosho Aoyama, famous for Case Closed, this samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane in his battle against a formidable foe armed with a magical katana and a demon army. With WIT Studio at the helm and Aoyama's direct involvement, this second anime adaptation after the early '90s TV run promises a mix of Detective Conan's style with the humor of early Dragon Ball and numerous historical cameos, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.
