Simu Liu Champions Film Adaptation of Sleeping Dogs

Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is spearheading efforts to resurrect the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the game to the big screen.

The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was mysteriously shelved a year later. Recently, Yen confirmed its cancellation, citing years of work, personal investment, and the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention offers a glimmer of hope for fans of the critically acclaimed 2012 video game. The original Sleeping Dogs, a gritty Hong Kong crime thriller following undercover detective Wei Shen, received widespread praise, including an 8/10 rating from IGN. Despite its success, a sequel never materialized. Whether Liu's efforts will succeed in securing the rights and reviving the film remains uncertain.
