Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake
The internet buzzed with Hollow Knight: Silksong speculation following a cryptic Twitter post and a cake-related incident, leading many to believe a Switch 2 announcement was imminent during the April 2nd Nintendo Direct. Let's delve into the details.
Hollow Knight Fans' Renewed Hope for Silksong
A Twitter Post and a Slice of Cake Spark Speculation
Excitement surged among Hollow Knight fans thanks to William Pellen, a game creator, and his pre- and post-Switch 2 reveal Twitter (X) activity on January 16th, 2025. His January 15th tweet, hinting at "something big" the following day, fueled speculation, especially concerning Silksong. However, it was his subsequent profile picture change that truly ignited the flames.
On the day of the Switch 2 announcement (revealing an April 2nd Direct), Pellen’s profile picture transformed into a slice of cake. A reverse image search traced the image to a Bon Appetit article featuring the Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published on April 2nd, 2024.
Pellen also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting further fan speculation and a flurry of comments connecting the cake to Silksong. One fan even vowed to bake the cake if Silksong news arrived by April 2nd, 2025. Another highlighted the "silky texture," subtly referencing the game.
It's crucial to note that Pellen's connection to the cake comment remains unconfirmed. While his profile picture change is undeniable, the significance of his actions remains open to interpretation.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's Long-Awaited Arrival
Initially announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel follows Hornet's adventures in a kingdom of silk and song.
Following a soundtrack preview in December 2019, Team Cherry remained largely silent for over two years. They resurfaced in February 2022, reassuring fans of the game's ongoing development and promising updates closer to release. A June 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Showcase trailer showcased new gameplay and confirmed the game's Game Pass inclusion upon launch.
Despite initial hopes for a 2023 release, a May 2023 announcement confirmed a delay. Team Cherry cited the game's expanded scope as the reason for the postponement.
After over five years of anticipation, the Hollow Knight community remains highly engaged, eagerly searching for any news regarding Silksong. However, concrete information remains scarce beyond the developers' continued work on the project.
