With its release date finally set for September 4th, developer Team Cherry has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will not provide early review codes. In an August 22nd Bluesky post, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier shared the developers' stance: they "felt it would be unfair for critics to play before Kickstarter backers and other players."

Consequently, no reviews will be published before the game's launch. While there are various reasons a game might withhold early codes, Silksong's immense hype, built over six years of anticipation, may be enough to carry it to release without them.

For major titles, however, the absence of early review codes is sometimes seen as a potential warning sign. Games like MindsEye, Starfield, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League either withheld codes or distributed them very sparingly, leading to fan speculation about game quality or attempts to control initial reception.

Team Cherry's reasoning focuses primarily on fairness and practical logistics. Schreier added in a follow-up comment that the small team's proximity to the release date makes distributing codes logistically challenging.

Most fans understand this position and continue to eagerly await the long-anticipated sequel. To catch up on Hollow Knight's story and all known information before Silksong's release, explore our article below.
