Silksong Dev Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 with Cake Pic
It's been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight. During this time, fans have eagerly awaited updates, with Silksong making sporadic appearances and disappearances at various gaming events. At one point, Microsoft seemed to confirm that the game would launch before June 2023, but that didn't happen. The Game Awards came and went without a whisper of Silksong. Now, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans are buzzing with speculation.
The latest excitement stems from a seemingly innocuous picture of a cake. Here's the story behind it.
Eagle-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to an image of a chocolate cake. Pellen's tweet that followed added fuel to the fire: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

At the time, rumors were swirling that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 on January 16, which indeed happened. Nintendo announced the Switch 2, but left many questions unanswered about the next-gen console. Was Pellen hinting at the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?
This sparked a frenzy among the Hollow Knight community. Fans reverse-searched the cake image, which led them to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake on the Bon Appétit website. The publication date of the recipe? April 2, 2024.
Why would this date be significant? Because Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans are now convinced that Pellen has initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) for Silksong with his tweet and the cake image.
The speculation doesn't end there. Fans are also puzzling over Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True offered an intriguing theory: "The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of 'everydruidwaswr.' I think 'wr' is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC."
Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans have pointed out that Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, near where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this signify?
It's important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. Has Nintendo secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just wild speculation from fans desperate for news?
We'll have to wait a few more months to find out. In the meantime, don't miss out on all the exciting announcements from Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
