Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta, Devs Drop New Trailer

NetEase's upcoming open-world RPG, originally titled Project Mugen, has been renamed Ananta. First revealed at Gamescom 2023, the game recently unveiled a new trailer, promising further details on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the teaser:

The reason for the name change remains unannounced by the developers. However, "Ananta" translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of the original "Mugen." The game's Chinese title also supports this thematic continuity.

While the name change has sparked debate among gamers, the release of the trailer confirms the project's continued development. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Although Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a potential advantage in the eyes of some players.

A surprising development is the deletion of the game's original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with a substantial following. Only the Discord server remains, albeit with a new name. This decision has left many players puzzled.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator tackling supernatural threats. The cast includes characters such as Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
