Path of Exile Delay as Grinding Gear Works on 2.0
Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, originally slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025. The delay stems from the need to address critical issues in the recently released Path of Exile 2.
GGG had previously committed to continued updates for Path of Exile 1 even after the launch of its sequel. However, the entire Path of Exile 1 development team was reassigned to help resolve Path of Exile 2's endgame problems and various launch issues, including crashes and balance concerns.
In a video message, Game Director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation: they underestimated the time required to resolve Path of Exile 2's problems and the impact of diverting the Path of Exile 1 team. He stated that prioritizing the stability of the newly launched Path of Exile 2 was necessary given its critical state.
While Path of Exile 2's launch was ultimately successful, achieving a top 15 spot on Steam's most-played games list, the unforeseen complications led to the indefinite postponement of Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update. Rogers expressed regret for the situation and admitted the studio's overconfidence in managing two simultaneous game releases. He assured players that a plan is in place for the eventual release of 3.26, but a firm release date remains unavailable. The team will continue to focus on Path of Exile 2 until at least version 0.2.0 is released, and possibly for a couple of weeks beyond that.
