Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X
Obsidian's Avowed: Xbox Series X 60fps Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30fps
Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, Avowed, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in an interview with MinnMax. While Patel didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation clarifies previous reports. The Xbox Series S version, as previously announced, will remain capped at 30fps.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60fps with lower visuals vs. 30fps with enhanced visuals) remains unconfirmed. It's unclear if the 60fps target on the Series X is the default setting or requires a specific performance mode.
Avowed's release date is staggered based on the edition purchased. The premium edition, priced at $89.99, grants early access on February 13th. The standard edition ($69.99) launches on February 18th, reflecting a recent industry trend that some publishers, such as Ubisoft, have already abandoned.
Set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and agency. Players will navigate a world steeped in war, mystery, and political intrigue, forging alliances and rivalries that shape the narrative.
IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's engaging conversations, high degree of player freedom, and overall enjoyable gameplay, stating that "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
