"Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs"
Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its array of accessories. While the price of the console remains unchanged, there has been a noticeable shift in the cost of the accessories, prompting a mixed reaction among potential early adopters.
The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World set at $499.99. Mario Kart World itself will retail as a standalone game for $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza comes in at $69.99.
However, the real surprise comes with the accessory pricing, which has seen an increase across the board. Here’s a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
In their official statement, Nintendo explained that these "price adjustments" for Switch 2 accessories are due to "changes in market conditions" since the initial announcement on April 2. The increase in price is most noticeable with high-end items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera, each seeing a $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set, however, received a more significant $10 hike, bringing its price to $119.99 from $109.99.
The community has been vocal about their concerns over the increased cost of the Joy-Con 2 Pair, which now comes within $5 of a triple-digit price point. This has left many prospective buyers feeling puzzled and hesitant about the additional expense.
Despite the outcry over pricing, there's some relief in knowing that many Nintendo Switch 1 accessories will remain compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, though the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, classic controllers like the Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will still be usable with compatible games.

The online buzz around this news includes discussions on leveraging existing Switch 1 accessories or opting for third-party alternatives. While these options may lack some functionalities like the C-button or the ability to wake up the console, they present a cost-effective alternative for budget-conscious buyers.
Nintendo has cautioned that further price adjustments could be on the horizon, stating, "Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." This news might be a bit of a letdown for some, but the compatibility of older accessories provides a silver lining for those already invested in the Nintendo ecosystem.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 are set to commence on April 24, 2025.
